SnoreRX Review

snorerx-reviewSnoreRX is one of the mouthpieces I was most looking forward to trying because it has some really unique features. I thought for sure it would end up being one of my preferred mandibular advancement devices (MADs), but in the end it got bumped off of my list of favorites by ZQuiet and Zyppah. That being said, it may be a better fit for you and end up being your preferred anti-snoring mouthpiece.

What Makes SnoreRX Unique?

Since SnoreRX is classified as an MAD, this means that it works by holding your lower jaw forward while you sleep. This “awake” position helps keep your airway clean, so soft tissues won’t cause a partial obstruction, which results in vibration that produces a snoring sound. However, as you can tell just by looking at it, the product is quite advanced. There are technical features on it that you just do not often see on other MADs.

The first thing you notice is that it is clearly very adjustable. It has a calibrator with 10 settings that are spaced 1 millimeter apart. So, you have a wide variety of lower jaw positions to choose from for maximum comfort and effectiveness. This is a pretty big deal. Most MADs do not allow for manual incremental changes, and those that do certainly do not give you this many settings to choose from.

SnoreRX is made of a medical-grade material that is durable and non-irritating. It contains no BPA, latex, or acrylics. Like other MADs, this one also uses a boil-and-bite method to achieve a custom fit, but you can still make incremental changes to jaw positioning even after you are done with the fitting process. You may also appreciate that the upper and lower trays are cushioned, so they are gentle on your teeth, and if you are a mouth breather, you will appreciate that the mouthpiece has airflow holes that SnoreRX calls V-Flow.

The makers of SnoreRX suggest that in most cases it has a lifespan of 12 to 15 months. This is almost double the lifespan of your average anti-snoring device. It also exceeds Medicare’s product performance standards, but don’t get too excited because Medicare does not cover the device.

My Experience

When I ordered SnoreRX, I appreciated that there was substantial discount to buy two, since I needed to also order one for my wife (there is an even better deal if you order three). The mouthpieces arrived and the first red flag was raised when I went to clean them. Being able to make so many positioning adjustments also means a harder cleaning process to get every little nook and cranny clean. I just used a denture cleaner I had on hand or the first cleaning. We both did the boil-and-bite technique to create a custom fit. My wife needed to do her mouthpiece twice, which didn’t seem to affect the material negatively in any way.

That night we were both a little overwhelmed by the positioning options. We were excited to be able to adjust the lower jaw, but maybe there is such a thing as having too many choices, or perhaps we are just too indecisive. Needless to say, we finally settled on a position. I actually went to sleep a little early as my wife stayed up to read.

In the morning, she said I didn’t snore at all before she fell asleep and considering her “one more chapter” resulted in finishing the book that was a pretty good sign. My mouth was definitely sore, but she said her mouth was fine. I thought I might have had the advanced the jaw positioning a little too far. Cleaning them took a little longer than most MADs, too, but I tend to be a little over zealous cleaning mouthpieces anyway. The thought of all that bacteria sitting on them until cleaned away makes me cringe a little.

The next night I reduced the position a little, and it made a huge difference the next day. I thought changing the position might affect its effectiveness, but it didn’t. I did really like the teeth cushioning feature and despite its bulky appearance it is surprisingly comfortable and easy to wear.

Moderately Priced

With the advanced features SnoreRX has, I really expected it to be a lot more expensive. As mentioned, I purchased two devices, which was $154. You can buy one for $99, so getting two decreased the unique price substantially. If you want to buy three your bill will be $199 plus tax and shipping. Shipping is via FedEx and costs about $10. It does arrive pretty quickly, too.

SnoreRX is backed by a 30-day unconditional satisfaction guarantee. You don’t need to have it back to the company within 30 days either. It simply has to be postmarked 30 days from the confirmed delivery date, so you really do get a full month to try it.

Advantages

  • Flex-Jaw design can be adjusted in ten 1 millimeter increments.
  • Calibrator makes it easy to read the setting, so if you take it apart while cleaning, you do not have to guess at what setting it was on.
  • Made of medical-grade material that is free of BPA, latex, and acrylic.
  • Cleared by the United States Food and Drug Administration.
  • Product and all materials are made in America.
  • Air holes allow you to breathe through your mouth, making it ideal for individuals with sinus problems, deviate septum, and nasal polyps.
  • Certified by the well-respected American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
  • Long lifespan of 12 to 15 months.
  • Boil-and-bite technology allows you to achieve a custom fit.
  • Cushioned tray is gentle on teeth.
  • 30-day money back guarantee.
  • Tailored design does not contribute to temporomandibular joint disorder.

Disadvantages

  • Due to the intricate design, cleaning takes a little more effort.
  • Mouthpiece can’t be worn by individuals with dentures or bridges, and it is not recommended for those with dental implants that are less than 1 year old.
  • Will likely cause soreness and drooling while you get used to it

Is SnoreRX Right for You?

If you are interested in a highly adjustable MAD without the need for a prescription, SnoreRX would be a great option for you. It is durable, and thoughtfully designed with a lot of unique characteristics. Plus, it can be worn by mouth breathers and those with a latex allergy.

Two other MADs that I really love are ZQuiet and Zyppah. If you want to try a tongue retaining device that holds your tongue forward instead of your jaw then take a look at Good Morning Snore Solution, which happens to be my absolute favorite.
